To walk you need the Trekking Card (10 € adults, 15 € on high-attendance days) or the Train Card. From 14 November there are weekends with trains suspended for works: always check the official page before leaving.

--- The Cinque Terre are best walked with one question in mind: what is open today? Trail status here is not fixed. It moves with the weather, works and crowds, and the only page that counts is the park's. This article puts in order what we read on 30 October 2026 about trails, cards, trains and the Via dell'Amore, says where sources disagree, and leaves you a plan that survives a closure. UNESCO describes the landscape as a steep coast of about 15 km between Levanto and La Spezia, shaped over centuries by dry-stone terraces for vines and olives, which is why trails are maintained, and closed, by precise rules.

What is closed today?Outdoors#

The trail network has an official, updated page on the Cinque Terre National Park site, with a weather-alert message (when we opened it, it read "Nessuna allerta", no alert, dated 29 October 2026) and four route categories: tourist, hiking, expert and closed. The Blue Path, the coastal route linking the villages, appears like this: Riomaggiore-Manarola (the Via dell'Amore) as tourist, with a stated 25 minutes; Manarola-Corniglia as closed; Corniglia-Vernazza (1 h 30) and Vernazza-Monterosso (2 h) as routes for experts.

A useful cross-check: the private site CinqueTerre.eu.com lists the coastal Manarola-Corniglia stretch as closed "because of a landslide", but its page shows a last edit of 18 May 2026. The two sources agree on the closed stretch, but only the park's is current to the week we are writing. It is a good example of why you never copy a list of closures from a blog, this one included: we tell you how to read it, we do not promise it will be the same tomorrow.

The park itself warns that trails may be closed or limited for weather and safety, maintenance and crowd management, and adds that the card includes services and access but does not replace safety rules.

Which stretches can you actually walk?Outdoors#

With today's closures, the simplest route is a day in three pieces plus a train. Start in Riomaggiore and do the Via dell'Amore, which the park describes as one-way to Manarola, about 30 minutes. Then take the train from Manarola to Corniglia, because the walk between them shows as closed. From Corniglia walk to Vernazza (1 h 30) and, if you have the legs and the light, on to Monterosso (2 h). Adding the park's stated times gives about 4 hours of actual walking, stops excluded: that is our sum, not a park figure.

The 1.5 hours between Corniglia and Vernazza and the 2 hours between Vernazza and Monterosso are classed "expert" on the official map. The park's guidelines ask for closed shoes with a lugged, non-slip sole (open or smooth-soled footwear is banned, with fines) and remind you that walking in bad weather is prohibited.

  1. Morning
    Riomaggiore, Via dell'Amore

Entry by reservation, one-way towards Manarola, about 30 minutes.

  2. Then
    Train Manarola-Corniglia

The coastal path between them shows as closed: skip it by train, with the fare or card you chose.

  3. Midday
    Corniglia-Vernazza

Park's stated time 1 h 30, route classed for experts.

  4. Afternoon
    Vernazza-Monterosso

Stated time 2 h. If the light fades, stop at Vernazza and take the train back.

  5. Evening
    Train back

Check the last train on Trenitalia before you set off. On regional trains leaving Levanto or La Spezia Centrale after 7:30 pm the evening fare applies, equal to band A.

How does the Via dell'Amore work?Outdoors#

It is the shortest and most regulated stretch. According to the official page, the entrance is in Riomaggiore, the route is one-way to Manarola, takes about 30 minutes, and individual visitors must reserve a time slot. Hours changed with the end of summer time: until 24 October 2026 it was open 9 am to 9 pm (last entry 8:30 pm); from 26 October 2026 to 28 March 2027 it is open 9 am to 6 pm with last entry at 5:30 pm.

Here the sources disagree on walking time: the trail map says 25 minutes, the access page says about 30, and the private site we cited says 900 metres and 20 minutes. It matters little, but do not time a train connection to the minute. The Via dell'Amore is included in both the Trekking Card and the Train Card: without a card you do not get in, and you book online on the card site or at park infopoints.

Which card do you need: Trekking, Train or single ticket?Outdoors#

It depends on how many times you board a train. The Trekking Card, per the park, includes the Blue Path between Monterosso, Vernazza and Corniglia, the Via dell'Amore, buses inside the villages, toilets in the stations (1 € for non-holders) and more. For an adult aged 12-69 it costs 10 € for one day, 17 € for two, 23.50 € for three; on high-attendance days that rises to 15, 26.70 and 37.50 €. The calendar of high-attendance days is a separate PDF on the park's site: we did not read it and do not give its dates.

The Train Card adds unlimited second-class travel on regional trains between Levanto and La Spezia. The price list changes on 2 November: until 1 November an adult pays 22, 29.50 or 35 € for one day depending on the band, while from 2 November to 31 December 2026 the park lists 17.30 € for one day, 29 € for two and 34 € for three. One discrepancy: Trenitalia lists the two-day card, band C, at 61.50 €, while the park's English page says 61.00 €. If you buy that band, check the amount at purchase.

A single regional ticket at the Cinque Terre fare costs, per Trenitalia, 5, 8 or 10 € depending on the day's band, until 1 November 2026; it must be validated and is valid 75 minutes for one direct trip. We did not read the fare in force after 1 November, so we do not state it. Finally, cards are non-refundable except in cases set by the rules (weather alerts, force majeure, a train strike for the train card), and two- or three-day cards are not refunded if even partly used.

Trains and works: when the line stopsOutdoors#

After 1 November the picture changes, and it is worth checking before you book a room. RFI and the park report works on accessibility at Riomaggiore and Manarola stations (lifts and a new link at Manarola). To carry them out, trains will be suspended for 48 hours between Corniglia and La Spezia on the weekends of 14-15 November and 19-20 December 2026 and 9-10 January and 6-7 February 2027, and between Levanto and La Spezia from 10:30 pm to 6:30 am on Friday to Sunday nights of the same weekends. The site works every day, mostly at night.

For you this means two things. Riomaggiore and Manarola sit between La Spezia and Corniglia: on those weekends, for 48 hours, do not plan the Via dell'Amore around a train from La Spezia. And on the affected nights, decide before 10:30 pm how you get back after a long walk. The park refers readers to Trenitalia for updates.

How much to spend (indicative averages)#

A day on foot between the Via dell'Amore and the Blue Path, with an adult Trekking Card, costs 10 € (15 € on high-attendance days), plus the train tickets you use: between Manarola and Corniglia and back, on regional trains at the Cinque Terre fare, the range we read is 5-10 € a trip until 1 November. With a one-day Train Card from 2 November the park lists 17.30 € for an adult. These are indicative averages: they depend on the day's band, discounts and what is open.

What if the weather turns?Indoors#

The park is blunt. With a yellow weather alert it advises against the trails and may stop selling the Trekking Card; with an orange or red alert it bans access to the whole network and suspends sales of all cards. On those days the plan becomes hopping between villages by train and strolling the old streets, no trails. The bus inside the villages is free with the card, but it does not link one village to another, and the card is not valid on La Spezia or Portovenere buses. For trail emergencies the guidelines give 112.

What to leave out#

  • Trying to do "the whole Blue Path" when a stretch is closed: two stretches done well beat an improvised detour.
  • City shoes: they are banned on the trails, and checks are not a detail.
  • A last-minute return: the Via dell'Amore closes at 6 pm with last entry 5:30 pm, and on works weekends the line can stop at night.
  • A calendar copied from a blog: trail status is read on the park's page, every time.

If you have another day#

The Cinque Terre run on logistics and crowds: for another city where access and tickets matter, read Venice without the crowds, which uses the same checking approach. If you want an easier walking day, one day in Lecce is all flat. And if you wonder how to have an AI build an itinerary without inventing trail hours, see AI travel itineraries: what works.

If your day changes#

UNNIVAI is built to rewrite the route when an opening, the weather or tiredness changes: same walk, different order. If it sounds useful, join the first people in.

Trail status, hours, prices and works were checked on the official sources listed on 30 October 2026 and change often: check the park's page on the day. Where two sources disagree, we said so. We did not read the calendar of high-attendance days or the train fare after 1 November.

Frequently asked questions

Can you walk all five villages in one day?

It depends on which trails are open. On the park's map on 30 October 2026 the Manarola-Corniglia stretch of the coastal path shows as closed, so that piece is done by train. Corniglia-Vernazza (1 h 30) and Vernazza-Monterosso (2 h) are listed as routes for experts, with the park's stated walking times.

Do you need the Cinque Terre Card to hike?

For the Monterosso-Vernazza-Corniglia sections of the Blue Path and for the Via dell'Amore, according to the park, yes: the Trekking Card covers them. The Via dell'Amore also needs a reservation. For other trails in the network, check the individual route page on the park's site: we have not verified whether they require the card.

How much is the Cinque Terre Trekking Card?

On the park's site the adult one-day rate is 10 €, rising to 15 € on high-attendance days; the two-day card is 17 € (26.70 € in high attendance). These are prices read today, and the calendar of high-attendance days is a separate PDF.

How do I know if a trail is closed?

The park's trail network page shows each route's status plus a weather-alert message, and the park infopoints in the stations, from La Spezia to Levanto, give information on site. Status changes with weather, maintenance and crowds: check the page on the day.

Are there days when trains do not run?

Yes. The park and RFI report suspensions for works on the weekends of 14-15 November and 19-20 December 2026, and 9-10 January and 6-7 February 2027, for 48 hours between Corniglia and La Spezia; between Levanto and La Spezia there are night stops from 10:30 pm to 6:30 am on Friday to Sunday nights.
